Handbook Co-Pilot


Does thinking about your employee handbook make you cringe?  Like, you know it's out of date, or you know there's some language in there that you don't love, it just doesn't feel like you and your business, or you started working on it but never finished?

You need a handbook co-pilot.  Someone who understands you and your vision, also knows a thing or two about HR, and can help guide you through the project.

When it comes to your handbook, you work on it in fits.  Starting and stopping.  Sometimes ignoring, and most of the time it's just at the bottom of your long to-do list. 

On top of that you feel like it never actually says what you want it to, and it's a living document, so how do you even deal with that?

Introductory Session
We'll talk about what's working and what isn't with your current draft (if you have one).  Your goals for your handbook and the timeline for the project ahead.

Handbook Draft
I provide you with a handbook customized to your business's needs based on your size, industry and anything else you wanted to include.  If you have a previous handbook that you want to use, then I incorporate your previous work into this draft.


Read the Draft
Before we get together for our next session, your homework is to read through the draft and to add your comments and edits.  This usually takes 2 - 4  hours.

Review Session

You'll add all your questions, comments and edits to your handbook and then you and I will get together and make sure it reflects your business's actual operations.

First & Second Revisions
I'll incorporate your feeback into the document and send it back to you for your review.  Sometimes it takes one more revision for the document to fully reflect your vision so I include two revisions of the draft.

Final Draft
When we're finished I will send you Word and PDF versions of your handbook.

  • You're never going to read the draft (because then we'll never finish, and I hate it when projects are unfinished!)

  • You want to include every possible legal policy and possible issue  in your handbook - if that's the case, you should reach out to a lawyer (happy to refer you to someone!)

  • You don't want an employee handbook because you'd rather just take things as they come for a while.
