You’re a smart, strategic business owner.

You just need some help getting your policies and procedures clearly outlined and written down.

As a business owner, your to-do list is neverending. You’ve got a team to manage, a budget to oversee, and goals to reach.

So even with the best of intentions, your employee handbook somehow ends up at the bottom of your list… never getting the attention it deserves.

But you know your team needs clear policies and directions…

Handbook Co-Pilot

Does any of this sound familiar?

Thinking about my employee handbook

(or total lack of one) makes me cringe.

My current handbook is out of date

and full of stuffy language I don’t love.

I started working on my employee handbook,

but work and life happened… and I never finished it.

Creating an employee handbook feels overwhelming

and impossible at this point.

You’re not alone. You just need a handbook co-pilot!

If you love the idea of turning over your handbook to an HR pro who understands your business, your values, and your vision – you’re right where you need to be. Let us guide you through this project and do the HR heavy-lifting so you can finally have the clear, complete, and cohesive employee handbook your business deserves.

No more guessing what policies should be included or working from some template you found on the internet that doesn’t really relate to your unique business. Your handbook is written specifically for your business.

From one busy, motivated
small business owner to another…

I understand how valuable your time is and how much you have on your plate. That’s why I designed the Handbook Co-Pilot to be as straightforward and simple as possible!

We don’t waste time or follow an arbitrary guideline that doesn’t make sense for your unique business. We don’t skip important steps or ignore the hard work either. And we do, believe it or not, have some fun along the way.

Your employee handbook should be a flexible, living document that defines your policies and expectations, so you and your employees are on the same page and everyone is treated fairly.

Here’s How It Works

We send you a questionnaire about your business practices and handbook preferences.  This takes you about 20 - 30 minutes to complete.

We use your preferences to create the first draft of your handbook.

You review the draft, add your comments and questions, and then we get together to discuss the adjustments you would like us to make, verifying them for compliance along the way.

Final draft of your handbook delivered to you in PDF & Word format.

“Candice was incredibly warm and welcoming, immediately helping me find ways to address my concerns”

A fellow business owner recommended I reach out to Candice after I mentioned some concerns I was having with an employee. Candice was incredibly warm and welcoming, immediately helping me to find ways to address my concerns. Her answers are empathetic, thoughtful and informative. Candice provides a wealth of resources over email, through webinars, and her regular newsletters. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Hi, I’m Candice – your HR pro and Handbook Co-Pilot!

I’m so glad you’ve found yourself here! After more than a decade of working in HR (and a master’s degree in HR from Penn State), I’ve seen the power of what values-aligned HR can do for small businesses.

My superpower is helping impact-driven leaders like you grow your team in a way that feels good, increases employee retention, makes your work more meaningful, and saves you money along the way.

Candice lives and works on the unceded land of Popeloutchom, home to the Awaswas speaking Uypi Ohlone, recently called Santa Cruz, California.

I can’t wait to dive into your policies and procedures and create an employee handbook that makes life and work easier for every member of your team.

Candice is a miracle worker! I cannot thank her enough for all her hard work and guidance on our employee handbook and other HR developments over the last year. I feel so much better about the state of our organization, and look forward to working with Candice in the future!

Not sure if you need this much support?

I totally understand!  Your handbook can be a bit of a vortex.  If you'd like to start with the first step in the handbook process before committing doing the whole thing together, we can begin with an audit.

During the Handbook Audit I have a look at all of your policies, compare them to best practices and make recommendations rooted in the values of equity, sustainability and community.

At the end of the audit you'll have a clear understanding of where your handbook stands, and steps that you can take on your own, or we can take together to get you where you want to be.  If you decide to do an employee handbook with me I will credit the cost of the audit toward your investment in your handbook.
