I am an HR Strategist (equity and sustainability focus) who helps companies hire people. Here are my hiring best practices:

  • Be transparent about pay, day-to-day expectations and benefits offered in the job ad and/or during the interview process

  • Have a pre-determined set of interview questions that are related to the candidates qualifications for the position, not on their personal characteristics

  • Assess the diversity of the current employee pool against the diversity of the county where the company is located.

  • If there is a homogenous employee pool, inquire into why that has happened and ways to change it.

  • Include a panel interview or a working interview (paid) so that you can include the perspectives of multiple interviewers
